It was an evening in November 1998, in a church hall packed with a huge crowd that I heard an old African pastor explain the gospel from Matthew 27:25-52.<\/p>\n
I clearly remember the old man’s features and mannerisms. He waved a lot. He was full of joy as he gave a passionate explanation of the suffering of Jesus Christ on the cross. I was moved from within and felt convicted of my self-righteousness and my sin before God. I understood that together with the rest of the world, I was the reason for Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross. I walked to the altar in tears, overwhelmed by God’s love, I prayed and put my trust in Jesus from that day. No more shame or feelings of inadequacy! No more fear of death and dying! I no longer needed alcohol to enjoy life!\u00a0Peace flooded my heart – I found my Saviour. He found me.
